Emergency Preparedness
Crestmont University is committed to the safety and well-being of our students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This page provides important information about how the University prepares for emergencies, what to do during an emergency, and how emergency information will be communicated, in accordance with our Emergency Warning & Evacuation Policy.
In an Emergency
Call 911
for life-threatening situations, immediate medical assistance, fire, or any crime in progress. After contacting 911, you may also report the incident to Crestmont University.
Emergency Preparedness Information
The following information is based on the University’s Emergency Warning & Evacuation Policy.
Emergency notifications
When a significant emergency or dangerous situation is confirmed, the University will issue an emergency notification without delay, unless doing so would compromise emergency efforts.
Notifications may include:
- Nature of the emergency.
- Location of the incident.
- Protective actions to be taken.
- Evacuation or shelter-in-place instructions.
- Contact information for assistance.
- Follow-up information.
Who will be notified?
Notifications may be directed to the appropriate segment or segments of the University community, including:
- Individuals present at the affected instructional location.
- Students attending hybrid classes.
- Employees working at or supporting the affected location.
- The entire University community when the emergency may affect broader population.
The decision will be based on the nature and severity of the emergency, its location, and recommendations from emergency responders.
How you will be notified
Emergency information may be communicated through one or more of the following methods:
- Direct verbal communication at the instructional location.
- Email notifications.
- Telephone communication.
- Text messaging.
- University website postings.
- Other methods as appropriate.
Emergency responders and building management personnel may be notified before or simultaneously with the University community, as appropriate.
Evacuation procedures
If evacuation is required, individuals present in the instructional location will be directed to immediately exit the space via the nearest safe exit, as indicated in posted instructions. Follow the directions of University personnel, building management, and emergency responders. Do not re-enter the building until you are told it is safe to do so.
Emergency drills and tests
The University conducts emergency response and evacuation testing as appropriate to help ensure readiness and a safe learning environment.
Types of emergencies
Emergencies may include, but are not limited to fire, gas leak, earthquake, severe weather, active threat, medical emergency, or virus outbreak, or other conditions that pose an immediate risk to life or safety.
